To grow our development team we look forward for a motivated student (m/f/d) for a master’s thesis in a rapidly growing and promising field of autonomous driving.

You should have background knowledge and practical experience in computer vision and deep learning, ideally in computer graphics as well. Good programming skills in Python and C++ are also required.

Topic: Asphalt used for paving roads can be made of different types depending on requirements like surface durability and will show signs of deterioration like potholes over time. For creating 3D models of cities with a high degree of realism, asphalt properties like aforementioned should be considered. Therefore, data about different real-world asphalt examples could be captured and enriched for use in a 3D modelling process. In the proposed master’s thesis, a method for capturing and enriching data about asphalt examples using deep learning methods which process images of asphalt examples should be developed. Ensuring a high degree of realism and extracting different asphalt properties should be a goal of the work. The developed method should be evaluated based on a manual reference setup and compared against an existing asphalt modelling procedure not relying on deep learning.
